Mortal Kombat X introduces a gay character!

For all the gaymers out there, and I know that there are quite a few, here is some exciting news: Mortal Kombat X has a gay character out there! The back story, or really the story itself on how we come about to his sexuality is really just very subtle and you never would really guess it if you weren't paying attention, you would have thought that he was just a regular character.

The former thief turned monk Kung Jin has a flashback during the game where he has a conversation with Raiden about joining the Shaolin Monks. He basically says that he "can't... they won't allow it." And Raiden replies back with, "They care only of whats in your heart, not what your heart desires." If only it were that easy. It seems like the fictional world of Mortal Kombat X is having the same dilemmas as modern gays in the real world today.

I think that it is a huge and groundbreaking step for Mortal Kombat X to have this gay character. And for the creators to display his sexuality in such a mild manner really shows how insignificant a characters sexual orientation should have an impact on the player. It's a back story that really personifies the character and yet it is just like showing that his hair is black and that his skin tone is a little beige-y brown color. It is who he is, not who we see he is. I'm proud of you game designers of Mortal Kombat X. I can't wait to play this game on my PS4!

What do you guys think of the new addition to the Mortal Kombat characters?

World Health Day 2015

What is ONE thing that you could do to improve your health?

I think for me, my biggest thing is that I love salt and sugar. I would just probably watch my intake on salt and sugar. My downfall is chips. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wavy Lay's Hickory BBQ chips. They are just too good! I could literally eat an ENTIRE BAG in just one sitting. It's so terrible but true. And that's a ton of sodium and sugar. But they are just so addicting!

I'm planning to do the Stoli Guy competition this year and the Dallas Voice of Pride singing competition this year as well. I competed last year for Stoli Guy and got 1st runner-up in the Dallas Division but did not compete in Voice of Pride. I need to start working out and eating healthier and training my voice for those things and improving my health would contribute to me doing well in both competitions tremendously.

What would you guys do and what are your fitness/health goals?

You're quite judgmental

Please forgive me as this is a rant about someone and the title as about being judgmental and I'm sitting here writing on my blog about being judgmental, but just read on. Last week, someone that I know had said to me, "Look at what they are doing to themselves, they shouldn't be going there." She was talking about these overweight couple that just walked out of a local wing store with their order. I asked why she hated those people so much and she responded by saying that she doesn't hate them but what they do to their bodies. I then told her that there's nothing that you can do and she told me that she will pray for them. Irritated, I told her that I don't think that that is going to help them. She looked at me surprised and said, "Excuse me?" So then I reiterated to her, "That is not going to help them, you should tell them yourself." Then she was quite after that.
Now I don't normally come off as abrasive as that but this lady is quite rude and judgmental. I honestly thoroughly dislike her. She just irks me. I don't know if she just doesn't think before she spits out her venom or what. She actually SEEMS like she is a nice person but I can see right through her. Also, she hides it by talking about the Lord. I just don't get her. She claims that she is a Christian and is a follower, but she does not act like it at all. She gets mad at people for saying the word ass and makes a big deal about it but she can openly judge people by their weight and it's like nothing to her.

Now I am not saying that I'm not judgmental at times, I know that I am, but I wouldn't openly say that to people that I am not really that close with. Like, I know her but I am not her best friend or even her FRIEND at all. It just gives people a bad taste in their mouth about you. I don't like to hear random people judging other people. I don't know you, so don't come to me with your hateful ways. Let's because friends first, so that I know I can trust you, and then we can judge people together.

I know it's not right to judge people, but I'm okay with that. When I'm around my husband or some friends and we sit around and judge other people we are not hurting anyone or ourselves. It's just friendly chit chat between people that we talk about and then we let go. I don't hold on to things like that. It's just conversation to talk about and laugh and have a good time and then that's all that it is. I am not openly attacking anyone or their character. I don't know them so I can't say anything about who they are as a person. Just what's on the outside. If that makes me a bad person, then you can spank me, but other than that. I don't really see much harm. I'm pretty sure that people do the same about me, and I could care less.

What about you guys? What's your stance on the situation or on the topic of judgement? Let me know in the comments below!

Gay issues in 2015

I watched a movie on Netflix today called Out In the Line-Up.It's a documentary about surfers who are gay and the struggles that they had to deal with in that community. Actually, currently I am watching it as I am typing this. It is actually interesting in hearing about how much people in the surfing industry. A lot of the things that surfers have said on there is that it's really taboo to be gay in the surfing community. That everyone just talked about surfing so no one really knew if anyone was gay because they just didn't talk about it.

I would think that this would be a good thing because being gay is not an issue and that people just don't care to know if you are gay or not, you are just a like-minded person getting along and loving what you do. That's how society should be, not so curious and prying into peoples personal lives. If you were on the way to becoming a good friend of mine, then eventually I wouldn't mind if they asked or they would probably find out soon anyway. Honestly, who cares? Why is being gay such a taboo thing nowadays? There are so many people out who commit suicide because of non-acceptance. Why would you want that to happen to someone because you feel that it's against your morals? You are not that person and they do not reflect you. If you don't want to be friends or even be acquainted with a gay person, just omit yourself. There's no room for hate in my book.

It's 2015 and being gay is something to embrace. You should hug that gay person that you meet out randomly. They have probably been through hell in their life. You never know what is going with someone in their life. They don't know what going on in yours. So why hate on someone just because of their orientation? It's almost like being gay is becoming the new thing after racism. And that still exists in this world. Although, those things will probably never go away, it would be nice if it were more socially accepted.

What about you? What do you think about LGBT issues?

Transformation Tuesday

Happy St. Patrick's Day! It's Green Day here in Texas and it's such a beautiful day! I have a little bit to talk about before we get into today's topic. The radio yesterday said that it was going to rain today and I'm so glad that it didn't. It was just wonderful being able to look outside and feel happy and warm... literally. The past couple of weeks have just been so bipolar with the weather. See, Texas is the craziest state when it comes to weather. It could literally be snowing and icing one day, and the next, it's warm and sunny and all the snow will melt and leave all the ice there, and then the next day freeze up again. It's so crazy, I hate it. But I love it here in Texas.

I'm really excited because in honor of St. Patrick's Day, Boomerjacks (http://www.boomerjacks.com) near where I live, is having their 6th annual St. Patrick's Day Tent Party! The establishment shuts down the parking lot in the plaza that they are located in and pitches a huge tent with a band that plays around 7pm. They serve drinks and food there and will also have other vendors that you can purchase from as well. It's really cool and it's literally right in front of my apartment complex so I could just walk to and from. Oh man, I'm surprised I haven't done that so many times with all the drink specials that they have. I hope to be a regular there someday soon. We can only wish.

On to today's topic: Transformation Tuesday! I love this day. I think it's mostly fueled by my obsession with myself and how crazy I used to look in high school. The picture on the left is me back in 2009 right before I moved to Texas. I went to sushi with my friends Maddie and Hayley and it was a stressful time for me with moving and my family that I just decided to buzz my hair. I liked it for the most part. No, actually I loved it. I love having short hair. It's so easy to manage and keep up with. I hate have long hair. It looks good and is sexy and I absolutely LOVE getting my hair pulled, but I hate the maintenance that comes with it. I look like a hot ass mess in that picture. I don't know what I was thinking... but at least I looked skinny.

On the right is a picture I took a few weeks ago in my car on my way to work. I love my hair in this... well the way it looks. I'm wearing an express shirt in an almost salmon color with a blue blazer. No glasses this time, only because I am wearing sunglasses. I feel more confident and happier in this picture. I am more comfortable with myself now than I have been in years.

I guess the transformation for me is not just looks but the way I feel about myself and my life. Let me know about YOUR Transformation Tuesday! I hope you guys have a fun and fabulous and safe St. Patrick's Day!

It's been a long time

It's been a long time, shouldn't have left you, left you without a dope beat to step to, to step to, to step to...

Okay, sorry about my lame Aaliyah snippet right there. How have you guys been doing? I know it has been a long time... over two years since the last time I posted on here. Hopefully, in the next few months, I will be posting more and more on here. I have had a lot of time on my hands to think about my life and I want to share it as well as the knowledge I have with the world.

As you can see, I've updated my blog, just a little bit. I've changed the name from Writings of a Prodigy, to Hashtag Gay. The reason for that is because if you guys know me... which some of you do. You know that on my Instagram, which is @adreyyy so go follow me... ;), all of my pictures I tag with #gay. It's like my thing. Everyone who I know always asks me, "Why do you always tag #gay?". I don't really know why I do that. I think it's probably because I'm an attention whore, which I don't downplay at all and I own, but it could be because there's so many things in my life that are gay that I like to put out there.

I like labels. Okay, maybe I don't but I have accepted labels. We put labels on everything. From the color of a crayon to the color of someone skin. Everything and everyone has a label. You have a label when they decide to name you before you pop out of your mother's womb. But when it comes to people, and really a majority of people, when you put a label on them they rebel or get their feelings hurt. Being called a faggot is hurtful but asking if someone is gay shouldn't be. Why not have a gay marriage? It's still a marriage, it's just categorized for certain people.

Being gay is not a choice. It's about as optional as the culture you are born into. Some people love it, some people hate it. The truth of the matter is, we all should accept it for what it is and move on with our lives. Putting 'gay' out there is shedding light on the fact that there are people out there who don't identify with everyone else, but do at the same time. We as a society need to break down these barriers and be happy with who we are and with the people all around us.

This blog is not a new one but an evolving one so I changed the name because I am evolving too. Hashtag gay is me. I am #gay.

I plan on updating this blog at least once a week for a month to get back into the fold. It's going to be able my thoughts on what it means to be gay, updates in my life, interests that I have and more. I'm really excited to get back into writing good and solid content for you and I hope that you will be with me for a long time. Here is to next week.

The Vast Fields of Ordinary

By Nick Burns and ultimately turned into one of my favorite books. It was so touching yet eerie at the same time. I loved it. Exciting yet thrilling as well. I couldn't put it down. Kind of depressing and heart breaking the ending was and the book just left me thinking. Nick is soo vivid in his writing that it sent chills down my spine. Literally.

The book is about a boy named Dade Hamilton who leads a pretty normal suburban teen angst life. He has a sorta kinda boyfriend who hardly acknowledges his existence but is kinda obsessed with him but also has a girlfriend. Super complicated. Its a really good coming-of-age/coming out story with scary twists and turns that is new but relevant in teenagers lives these days. He meets all kinds of people that are all the wrong crowds especially a boy named Alex. Which is such a touching part of the story and I couldn't help but love Alex. There is also news reports of a missing girl Jenny which was so terrifying, I felt like I saw her for myself.

The Vast Fields of Ordinary is an inspiring novel about romance, life, mystery and death. I finished the book wanting more and there's definitely something in the book that I want to keep with me. I'm thinking about buying the book myself since I checked it out form the library. I always want to buy stuff that I really like.

It even inspired me to write a book myself. A coming of age tale maybe. I'm not much of a writer but I'm always looking for more gateways to express my creativity.

I give the book 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend it.
